While we were disappointed that the center for measurements and standards is no longer open to the public, we made a visit to NCAR and hit the local trailhead early in our Colorado trip. The 6 – 8 inches of snow we were supposed to get in Boulder ended up being nothing, and I was worried at this point in our trip that I would go yet another year without ever having stood in falling snow. The NCAR trail helped ease my worries. As we hit the trail, a light mist of snow daintily touched down on the fingers of my black gloves before instantly melting. I ended up with a lot of snow later in the trip, but I got to have my first real snowball fight (I lost. Terribly.) on this trail.
